Welcome to My Ideal Life

Career change from the inside out

How many of the following can you relate to?

  • your role has been made redundant and you want to seize the opportunity to do something new
  • you know you want to change your job/career, but don't know what else you could do
  • you find yourself constantly complaining to friends and family about your job
  • your health is suffering because of your work
  • you spend so much time working that your close relationships are suffering
  • you start the countdown to the weekend on a Monday
  • you feel suffocated by your job/career or boss
  • you feel as though you're just going through the motions at work
  • you find yourself dreading the thought of having to go back to work during the weekend or when you're on holiday
  • you know that you're capable of doing so much more
  • you feel stuck or trapped in your job
  • you are envious of other people who do work that they really enjoy.

Usually when someone decides they want to move on from the work they’re doing, they’ll start by updating their CV, scouring the Internet for suitable vacancies, contacting recruitment agencies and filling in application forms. Now, there’s nothing inherently wrong with that; when we decide to make some kind of change in our lives, taking action is important. But unless you’ve taken the time to stop and think about the kind of work you really, want to do (instead of what you think you should do), chances are that when you do land that new role, after a few months or even a few years, you’ll end up right back where you started and you start the cycle all over again. So, ask yourself this:

Do I want more of the same, or do I want the next stage of my career to be the most enjoyable and rewarding period of my working life?

If you answered yes to the latter, then starting your career change from the inside out is for you.

So what would you like instead?

  • to have more quality time for yourself and with your loved ones?
  • to wake up on a Monday morning looking forward to the week ahead?
  • to experience good health
  • to feel that what you're doing has a sense of meaning and purpose?
  • to rediscover the passion and drive you once had for your job?
  • to get paid well for doing what you love?

IdealLife can help you make those difficult career decisions by working with you to explore what's important to you in the world of work before deciding what your next best step will be, then creating a solid action plan for getting there.

Testimonials

What my clients have said

"When I made the scary decision to change my career from being a publisher to a musician, I was really quite nervous about whether it would work. Cheryl then came as a godsend: she asked all the right critical questions, made sure I stuck to the answers, encouraged me by emphasising the progress my plans were making, and checked that those plans were actually relevant to achieving my goal. Two years later, I am still making music in a very tough and competitive market, and what's more, I have set up an agency to represent other musicians. Without Cheryl I doubt I would have lasted three months. I owe this positive life-changing experience partly to her.
